Based on some of the comments so far, it seems necessary to elaborate why I was a little unnerved:

Yes, the kid was super-excited about seeing a grown-up wear a video game beanie. Yes, that part is cute. The part that was not cute was how he rubbed up against me for an entire elevator ride. I didn't exaggerate that part to make the comic funnier, he was right up on me while his Dad just watched.

He also said "I know what that hat is from" in the same way that a stranger might rush up to you in a poorly-lit parking garage and say, "I know your dirty secret." His adoration came across as creepy.

I'm all for encouraging kids and humoring them (that was my entire job through high school), but not in an elevator while they're trying to meld with my torso and sound like they're planning on blackmailing me. Perhaps it's my fault for not conveying that properly through the comic, but let's not assume that I hate interacting with enthusiastic children.
